saying "sideloading programs" in a linux desktop context is wild, please fucking don't

there's not supposed to be one and only "official" loading, where everything else is "side" to it

it's called installing programs

@navi I don’t say “sideloading” in the context of phones either. Just say “installing”.

I have never had an Android phone with Google Play on it in my life. Installing APKs or using F-Droid were always the normal way of installing things on my phone.

“sideloading” is a term that makes it sound like a thing that is not normal, or something only “power users” should be able to do.

I prefer to see the headline:
“Google is preventing users from installing software”
vs.
“Google is preventing users from sideloading”

One sounds a lot more serious.

@Zergling_man @SuperDicq @navi you don't need package management for a device that's supposed to do like 5 things and have one of them be a internet browser so you can use some horrid webshit for everything not covered, just flash everything with the os

@Zergling_man @SuperDicq @navi the only sin of android is the manufacturers shipping it doing 20 things, 16 of which are internet browsers and 25 spyware, and being ball busting to build and flash. crying about side loading is like begging the landlord to not take away the ladder leading to the broken in window on second floor so you can get in while the front door is busted and also he uses it to jump into your bedroom every night and rape you, and also the room is actually in a brain washing faculty; it has a washing machine and a dryer so it's very handy to live in but I wouldn't get too comfy
